Network Device Registration (Computers, Phones, Tablets, etc.)
About Network Registration
Registration is required for every computer and networked device that connects to the Pomona College wired (ethernet), and the PomonaCollege and Pomona wireless networks. Registration assists in maintaining network security and provides contact information for computers on the network. Students must re-register their computers and other networked devices every semester.
Notes:
- Registrations of student devices are cleared out so upon the start of each new semester; they will need to be re-register.
- All other devices (faculty, staff, research labs, etc.) that are turned off or are off campus for over 3 months will need to be re-registered.
The first time your computer is plugged into the Pomona network (by ethernet or using the PomonaCollege or Pomona wireless network), you will be re-routed to a registration page. Registering your computer helps ITS keep the network safe for all users. Please read the campus's registration page for more information.
Typically, a computer that is not registered on the network will bring up the Registration web page when you start a web browser on your computer. You will not be able to access the Internet or network resources until you have successfully completed the registration process. Unregistered computers will be able to contact a select number of websites in order to assist you in updating software to meet the system requirements.
System Requirements for Connecting to the Pomona College Network
To maintain the safety and security of the College Network, your computer must meet the following requirements in order to connect:
Windows
- You must have all current Windows updates installed.
- You must have one of the following anti-virus programs installed:
- Microsoft Defender
- AVG Antivirus
- McAfee Antivirus
- Norton Antivirus
WARNING: Always uninstall any existing anti-virus software before installing one of the above, especially if the existing antivirus is a trial version
Mac OS
You must also have all the latest updates installed. Mac users can check with Software Update and install any updates it finds for you (click here for instructions).
UNIX (Linux)
For system requirements and registration information on registering a Linux (Ubuntu or other), please click here.
Smartphones and Tablets
Please consider connecting your phone or tablet to the Eduroam WiFi instead, and disregard the instructions below. Phones and tablets don't need to access network resources (network printing, file shares, etc.) like computers do.
Unlike Pomona College and Pomona wireless, Eduroam wireless available at all the Claremont Colleges as well as many colleges/universities around the world. To authenticate to Eduroam, use your full Pomona College username and password.
For more details on Eduroam WiFi, please click here.
Other Notes
- The registration procedure for wired and wireless connections are very similar, but you will need to register for each service individually.
- If you are registering a computer on the wired network, please make sure your computer is plugged into a working ethernet jack using CAT 5e or higher ethernet cable.
Once you have connected to the Network, please do the following:
- Confirm that laptop is connected to the PomonaCollege or Pomona wireless network.
- Open a web browser. You should be automatically redirected to the registration website.
NOTE:
- Select Pomona College Community (Faculty/Staff/Students).
- Login with your Pomona College username and password.
- You will be prompted to download a special program called the 'FortiNAC dissolvable agent'. Run it.
It will examine your computer to see if it complies with the campus's security policy.
If it passes, your computer will be registered! If not, it will give you a list of items to correct.
If you encounter trouble, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 909-621-8061.
