Create a SharePoint Team Site with the Pomona College Template
With SharePoint in Microsoft 365, you can build a team site to provide a location where you and your team can work on projects and share information from anywhere on any device. A team site includes a group of related web pages, a default document library for files, lists for data management, and web parts that you can customize to meet your needs. Creating a team site in SharePoint also generates a Microsoft 365 Group and creates avenues for communication with your team in Outlook and Teams.
SharePoint offers several site templates that contain pre-populated pages, page templates, news post templates, and web parts. Pomona College users have access to a team site template that will pre-populate your site with the Pomona College logo and colors.
To access SharePoint, go to office.com and log in with your Pomona College credentials. Click on the app launcher at the top left of the page to view your list of apps. Then click on SharePoint.
Next, follow these steps to create a SharePoint team site with the Pomona College team site template.
1. At the top left of the SharePoint start page, select + Create site.
2. In the pop-up window, select that you'd like to create a Team site.
3. Next, you'll have the option to select a template. Click on "From your organization" to see the templates created for Pomona College. Select the Pomona Teams Site Template.
Confirm your selection by clicking Use template.
4. Next, you'll be prompted to give your site a name, add a description, and create your Microsoft 365 group email address.
You'll also be prompted to set your site privacy settings and default language. Then, click Create site.
5. Lastly, you'll have the option to add site owners and members. Site owners have full control of site content, theme, permissions, hub associations, and other settings. Site members can edit and view site content, including files, pages, lists, and navigation. To add team members to your site, start typing their name into the text box. Users that are part of Pomona College's organization will appear. (If you're not ready to add team members to your site yet, you can skip this step and add members later.)
After you are done adding your team members, click Finish.
6. Your new SharePoint team site has been created!
