How to open HEIC images in Window
Problem
When attempting to open HEIC image files on a Windows computer, the following message appears:
"The HEVC Video Extension is required to display the file.
Download and install it now."
Environment
Solution
Apple's iPhone and iPad take photos in the HEIF image format by default. These photos have the HEIC file extension.
Unfortunately, neither Windows 10 or Windows 11 can view HEIC files without the $0.99 purchase of the 'HEVC Video Extensions'. You can purchase and install the extension by clicking on the 'Download and install it now' link in the message the appears.
