Uninstall VPN if encountering connection errors
Normally, when using virtual private network (VPN) software, the software will update automatically when launching it.
However, if you no longer need VPN software on your computer, it is best to remove it, as existing older versions of VPN software has been known to cause internet connection difficulties.
The instruction below will show one how to uninstall Cisco Anyconnect, which has been replaced by Cisco Secure Connect.
The removal of Cisco Anyconnect is especially important if you are encounter the error of 'Cannot connect to this gateway. Please choose another gateway and try again'.
Remove in Windows
- Uninstall Cisco Anyconnect from 'Add or remove programs'.
- Manually delete the following folders if they still exist:
- C:\ProgramData\Cisco
- C:\users\<your_userID>\AppData\Local\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

Remove in Mac OS
- Run the Uninstall AnyConnect app, which can be found at:
Macintosh HD --> Applications --> Cisco --> Uninstall AnyConnect
- Download an app call 'Find Any File':

NOTE: Spotlight (the built-in Mac search app) may not find all Anyconnect files.
- Do a hard drive search for the term 'Anyconnect'. Move all found items to the trash folder.
- Run the following Terminal (click here for help) command:
sudo pkgutil --forget com.cisco.pkg.anyconnect.vpn
